It wasn’t so long ago that anyone who expressed concerns about global
warming and the environment was considered a tree hugger, someone to be avoided at
parties. Of course, today nearly everyone has concerns and
interest in the well being of our planet and its continuation.
People are making better choices and going green. We all
know to: reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Many cities are banning plastic grocery bags, and deposits on
plastic bottles make it prohibitive to not recycle.
It is not much of a leap to understand that new attitudes toward the environment
translate into the jobs. With each green choice there is an
inherent employment potential. People are discovering new
career opportunities in expanding in green collar employment.
There are job potential for every skill set.
Positions in alternative energy sources are wide open for engineers and
scientists. For example water treatment facilities are reclaiming
waste water for use on golf courses and city landscapes. There
is technology that provides drinking water from reclaimed water. Water treatment
certification is available through your local community college.
Cities are also retrofitting existing or purchasing new buses and waste
management vehicles to run on natural compressed gas, technology also available on
private autos. There are jobs for drivers, maintenance workers,
and marketing personnel for alternative clean energy jobs. With a
concentrated focus on being green and expanding interests in alternative, renewable
energy and sustainability, more and more people are needed to fill jobs created by these
new fields. Staffing for environmentally friendly, green jobs, is
needed for the development, manufacturing, sales, and installation, and management of
solar panels, wind turbines and wind farms, roofs, insulation, windows, and recycling
centers. Many industries are currently
developing ways to transition from polluting practices to clean, eco friendly ways of doing
business. Construction and HVAC technicians are required to be
familiar with the environmental alternatives and economic advantages in demand for
both home and business construction. Federal and states
government is committing large sums of money for retraining for veterans and
misplaced workers to fill these green job positions.
If you live in the Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Inland Empire, Orange
County, and San Fernando Valley areas and are currently looking for a employment or
interested in exploring a new career, look to online postings. One
