Business: Disaster Recovery is about More Than Just Rebuilding

(Mon Jan 25th, 2010, by Kurt Duncan)

What happens when disaster strikes? More specifically, what happens when disaster strikes your business? Whether your medical business is affected by fire, storms, earthquakes, long term power outages, or other disasters that impact your business in a negative way, you need to be prepared in all ways.

Of course, you will have insurance to cover the costs of the building and equipment that was damaged or lost. However, what happens to your patients while your business is being rebuilt? Are they left without a medical provider? Alternatively, do you provide a disaster recovery plan through your answering service so that your patients are cared for?

When you make use of a medical call answering service, you are providing the option of live operator answering no matter when a patient calls. This is a very important service in the medical field since patients need to be able to reach someone when they call.

What you may not realize is that a quality medical answering service will offer specialty disaster recovery plans for your own business needs. A recovery plan will work by providing 24-hour a day answering services throughout the rebuilding process. Since your regular staff will not be able to answer the phone during normal business hours, your medical call service will be able to field all of your patients’ calls and then direct the calls as needed.

While you must think of rebuilding your business during a disaster, you must also continue to think about your patients. Nothing could be worse than your patients not being able to reach someone when they need to speak to their healthcare provider. You can remedy this by making use of a medical call service that does offer disaster recovery plans.

Since you will not have to worry about your patients being able to reach someone when they call, you will be free to take care of rebuilding your medical business.

A disaster can be a great detriment to your business. While you rebuild, you could lose patients who need to be able to reach their healthcare provider. Instead of leaving your patients on their own during the disaster, make sure that your answering service is still fielding your patients’ calls and sending you the messages you need to receive.

A disaster recovery plan through your medical call answering service should be part of your preparations just as you choose to prepare through insurance and readiness options.
