As far as car wheels, The 4 wheel drive is one of the best things that ever happened to automobiles because of many reasons. Car wheels that have 4 wheel drive made for them will always have an advantage over vehicles that don't have it because it gives better control on almost any surfaces over regular cars that do not have the 4 wheel drive system. In fact, racing cars use this system to give their vehicles better control when racing at very fast speeds around corners.

There has been alot of controversy as to who was the first person to come up with the initial 4 wheel drive system in a car but from the research and materials that I have gone through in most of the books that I have read on the subject it was Ferdinand Porsche who came up with the first car that had the 4 wheel drive in it. Ferdinand Porsche incidently was the famous founder of the Porsche car that are now well know for their style, speed and grace that have made them famous throughout the world. The interesting part of this was that when Porsche thought up this idea, he didn't do it for himself. In fact he actually designed the 4 wheel drive for an vehicle that had a small motor attached to each wheel.
3 years later the famous car company Daimler Benz also came out with their version of the 4 wheel drive. No wonder why people around the world have always thought of Mercedes Benz vehicles as the most trust worthy and longest lasting cars in the world. Amazing that most of us thought that the concept of 4 wheel drive for car wheels was a recent technology when in fact it was something that was thought about at the very beginning of the 20th century. America did not have its first 4 wheel drive vehicle built by an American company until the year 1911.
