Affiliate programs: How to Quickly Get Your Niche Affiliate Marketing Business Up and Running?

(Sun May 15th, 2011, by Jim Paul)

I often notice that people starting a niche affiliate marketing business try to do everything themselves. I'm not sure why, but for some reason people seem to think that having a business on the internet consist of different "rules" than an off-line business. While there are, in fact, some different rules there are some basics of business that hold true whether you are "online" or "offline" and one of these is that if you try to do everything yourself, you will surely take a long time to get up and running and take that much longer to be profitable.

If you were starting a brick-and-mortar store, you wouldn't expect to build the store, install the lighting, do all the renovations, come up with all the advertising and run the store all by yourself, would you?

I didn't think so, but for some reason a lot of people starting a niche affiliate marketing business seemed to think that they should build the website, create the content and market the website all by themselves! While this certainly can be done, it often behooves the marketer to leverage the work of other people and free up his time to do what he does best - marketing.

In order to get your affiliate marketing business up and running faster, you might want to think about buying a website. Now, I know you probably don't have a lot of money to invest but the fact is that you can get a premium designed website with unique content for less than you might think.

This will help you in two ways. First of all, by buying a professionally designed website you will probably get a much better looking and easier to manage site that you could build yourself. Secondly you will have the website almost instantly and you will be able to concentrate all your efforts on marketing the site, bringing in traffic and making sales. In effect, the website will pay for itself because you'll be able to start earning money much sooner than if you tried to build the website on your own.

Now, I'm not not talking about buying a cheap cookie-cutter site where there are dozens of others just like it on the web. I'm talking about buying a niche affiliate marketing website or blog that has a unique design and unique content and is specifically designed for niche affiliate marketers. These sites can be bought easily and you can even get them custom-made if you know where to look.

One thing you want to do if you do buy one of these sites is to make sure you're getting what you pay for. Check the content in Copyscape to make sure it really is unique and do some research on the seller to be sure that they are reputable. If you are buying at auction, you can usually check their feedback or if you are buying it through other means you can pretty much tell by their website if they are serious about their business.

Investing in a professional website for your niche affiliate marketing business might cost you a little bit more than you were planning on spending, but it is a smart move because you'll end up with a professional website that will instill confidence in your visitors and will allow you to focus on marketing the site without having to worry about learning HTML and other complicated coding languages. Investing a little bit of money in your business today, could produce larger profits tomorrow.

Early on in an affiliate marketing training program, for the most part, people tend to understand the overall concept and the possibilities for becoming profitable in affiliate marketing. You essentially are the advertiser for a product, an ebook or program of some sort that is offered online. Rather than pay for traditional ads, the vendor gets people, affiliates, to promote their stuff online and send possible customers to their site. They are happy to share the cost with their affiliates. What they do not always understand is how to choose the right product, ebook or program. Without doing this, the chances of finding profit are slim.

A misconception is the trend to go with the popular stuff, as you know people are buying them, so why not join in the fun? Although it is true, that finding something people are buying is important, choosing the really popular things is not the way to go. Too many other people are trying to promote them. What you want to do is find what they call a niche, a small specific market where people are buying. This way you do not get lost in the crowd, and can promote the product to a targeted audience that is known to want to buy it. This is the key for becoming profitable in affiliate marketing. Any decent affiliate marketing training program covers this idea first thing.

With online marketing, this means you have to be found in search engine results like a Google search, and your information needs to be right up there at the top of the search results. If you promote something like cell phones that everyone under the sun wants and needs, and there are millions of results from a search engine, what are the chances you will make it to the top? With a product that has a lower number of search results, say a few thousand, like an ebook that tells you how to build your own solar powered whatever, you have the chance of creating a successful promotion to those people who want to know how to do that. That is called a niche.

There are a lot of little tricks to learn when looking for a niche product to promote. Once common trick is to use what is called the quoted search. Put the terms people are using to search for your product in quotes, say "quality solar powered whatever" in the search box, and if the number if searches is under 10,000 and more than 800, you have most likely found a niche. As with all things, there is more to it than that, but it is a good starting point, for some it is all you need to become profitable in affiliate marketing. Taking the time to learn and study how best to find a niche market will be one of the most important things you do in your affiliate marketing training when starting up in this business.
