The success of many small and medium businesses, whether online or offline, depend on their ability to research and establish themselves in a smaller market commonly known as a niche market. A niche market is a smaller part of a larger market. For example, sports is an industry or huge market that is divided into smaller markets or niches like football, golf, basketball, track, tennis, etc. These smaller markets can then be divided into even smaller markets or niches. Take tennis for example. In the sport of tennis there are many products that the amateur and professional player will buy - racquets, shoes, head bands, wrist bands, shirts, shorts, socks, caps, towels, racquet strings, racquet cases, tennis balls, energy drinks and the list goes on and on. It is virtually impossible for a manufacturer or a large retail store to sell every imaginable product that a tennis player may need or want. This creates excellent opportunities for other businesses to supply products and thrive.
So how can you find good niche markets?
It is just a matter of finding out what people want or need. Let's look at the following first steps to build a profitable online business.
1. What's your passion?
First determine what passion, knowledge and experience you possess that you will be comfortable and excited to write and talk about. Having a passion for something makes it much easier to write about. You will need to write good articles or blogs later on in your online business to attract readers who share your interests. The more information and valuable advice you can give to your readers, the easier it will be for them to buy a product you recommend.
2. Gather more information.
Do some online searches through Goggle to see what other people are writing about in their blogs or articles. Just type in the keywords you would normally do a search for if you were interested in that product. Copy some of the articles and blogs that interest you and save them in a text file, like notepad. All the information you gather will be used as references when compiling and writing your own articles. By popular consensus, ezinearticles.com is the most popular article directory out there. Visit them for more material. Another great source for information is wikipedia.org.
3. Find keywords in your niche.
Go to the following site http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. This will take you to the "Google AdWords: Keyword Tool". Start brainstorming and think of all the possible keywords and phrases you would do a search for related to your niche market. Save all your keywords in a text file one to a line.
- Copy the keywords from your text file and paste them in the box headed "Word or phrase" in the Keyword Tool.
- Next, expand the "Advanced options" link and enter 1000 in the empty box next to "Filter keywords".
- If you are signing in for the first time you will be required to type a distorted word in the box just above the search button. Click on the "Search" button.
- On the left side under the heading "Match Types", deselect "Broad" and select "Phrase".
- Review the results of your search. Look under the "Competition" and "Local Monthly Searches" columns and make sure you select the keyword phrases that have low competition and local searches 1000 and over.
- Click on the Download button at the top of the Keyword column and click "Selected".
- You have just found and saved a good list of keywords people are actually searching for in your chosen niche. Each of these keywords and phrases represent a different niche. These are the keywords you will be using in your blogs and articles later on.
As a general, your keywords should have:
- At least 1,000 Local Monthly Searches
- No more than 30,000 pages in Google "in quotes" (e.g. "tennis news")
- No more than 10,000 results for "allintitle" (e.g. allintitle:tennis news)
Now that you have all your keywords saved. It's time to get products that can satisfy or match the needs of the searchers.
I started affiliate marketing without a single penny, and I had to take care of my wife and two kids. I was in debt, but that never stopped me.
One of my brothers even paid my rent, Internet connection and foods during three months! It was never in my intention to work for someone else. I am telling you this to show you that you too can become a successful affiliate marketer if you are serious and committed.
I decided to show you another way to earn affiliate commissions without spending any money (except for your Internet connection!).
Just follow this highly effective affiliate and proven marketing plan. It does work. The first thing you need to do is to brainstorm your site's topic. It is the most important part of your affiliate business. Don't overlook the few hours that you spend researching your niche, because this preparation will determine you affiliate business success.
The very first thing you need to do before you even think about making money online...
Generate 3 niche ideas based around a theme (examples: babies, dog training, laptop reviews...). When you start, I recommend picking a niche you are passionate about. If you have difficulties to choose your niche, read on...
You may not know it yet, but I am sure that you have a passion, a special interest. You have or know something that many people would like to know. You have something that has a lot of value to others... something that others on researching on the Internet.
Passion makes work fun and easy... So what are you waiting for? Share your passion.
What do you love to talk or read about?
What is your preferred hobby?
What do you do for fun and games?
What are your natural talents?
What special knowledge have you learned from your job? What do you do day after day, without even thinking about it (taking care of your parents, gardening, teaching your children a second language...).
If for any reason you don't find a subject, ask to other people. You can ask your partner, family, friends, or colleagues. They know you more than you imagine, and they will be able to tell you exactly in which topic you excel.
Let me give you an example... I was coaching someone from Belgium, and he was speaking three languages regularly and easily like any native speaker for any of these languages. After explaining to him the ABC of affiliate marketing and starting the road map, he told me that he was stuck, and couldn't find anything he is an expert at!
I told him listen: "You speak three languages without any difficulties and you tell me that your know nothing?", I then suggested to him to build a translation website, or a site to help people to learn how to learn a new language. Later, he will be able to offer his services, and develop an extremely profitable business.
