Advice: Feeling down? Maybe you have low self-esteem!

(Mon May 24th, 2010, by Liv Miyagawa)

Have you been feeling down a lot lately? Do you know why? If there is no obvious reason, such as having had to depart from somebody that you love, you may simply be feeling down because you have low self-esteem.

Low self-esteem leads to a long list of negative consequences. For example, people with low self-esteem more easily get stressed, anxious and depressed. Doubting yourself and feeling inadequate makes you worry about how others will perceive you, whether you will be able to deal with scary situations and what will happen to you. You might feel down because you don't believe in your ability to achieve what you want to achieve. You may not believe in your ability to create your future as you want it.

Another reason to why people with low self-esteem more easily feel down is that they have fewer real friends and thereby lack a good support network. Social support is vital for our well-being and if you don't get enough social support from people who know you and really care about you, you will more easily feel down. People with low self-esteem may know lots of people, but have few people that they really trust and who trust them. When they fall they have nobody to pull them up.

People with low self-esteem are more easily affected by negative events that happen in their lives compared to people with high self-esteem. People with high self-esteem know that whatever happens they are still good enough. People with low self-esteem on the other hand take negative happenings personally. They feel helpless and unable to deal with the situations and with their responses to the situations. Even though they more often than others blame other people for their misfortunes they believe that they must be bad people because bad things are happening to them.

If you are fed up with feeling down you should raise your self-esteem. Get help from a self-esteem coach!
